Cord and the posse have spent 3 days in the desert looking for the men that people heard talking about the "Mexican Treasure". The sheriff has followed many leads during the last ten years, trying to find the gold. If the gold can be returned to Mexico then the upcoming war might be averted.
Cord feels that the men who stole the gold will have to retrieve it soon, too many settlers are moving into the territory. Soon it will be too late to retrieve the gold and secretly get it out of the territory.
He climbs a small foothill and sees a small camp beyond. The men in the camp look familar. Can it be Pedro and his foreman, Paulo? What would they be doing way out here in the desert?
Cord will return to the posse camp and let them know what he has seen. In the morning, the posse can investigate the camp further and determine who they are and why they are out here.
