Maria has spent three long days following the directions that Pablo gave her. Her water is gone. She ate the last of the dried beef that Pablo gave her yesterday. Are those voices she hears, or is her mind playing games with her? She climbs a small foothill and sees a small camp beyond. The men in the camp look familar. Can it be Father and his foreman, Paulo? What would they be doing way out here in the desert?
She must go and find her horse, but at least tonight she will have some food and company. How will father react to her being out her? Will he send her back? She must find Cord? But for now she will enter the camp and take the consequences from her father.
