Maria has finally made her way down the hill and approachs the campsite. She realizes that it is her father who is at the campsite. Paulo has left and her father seems very upset.

Maria joins her father, who is now more upset. Why is she out roaming the desert? Upon hearing about the posse that Cord joined and their search for the gold, he gets more upset.

It is very late, and Pedro gets Maria something to eat and tells her to bed down in the wagon. He will stand guard for the evening.
