Creating Snowglobes with Paint Shop Pro Version 7
Page 2

Add a layer to your copy of the psp image.

Add an image or tube to your globe.
For this tutorial I added a witch with pumpkins and cat tube, plus I added another tube with two pumpkins to another layer. Then I duplicated the two pumpkins layer, use the layer pallet and choose duplicate, then I mirrored that layer. You can add anything that you like to your oval area.
I then used the sparkle tube set to a small size to add a few highlights to the image.
See the image below

Now we need to crop the image.

This will save on the byte size of your final image.
Use the crop tool and draw a square area around your image, then crop the image.

You can save your image now,
or you can use animation shop to add some life to the image.

Hit Shift + D to create two copies of your image.
globe tutorial 23

To add highlights to your image,
click on the background area,
then do a selection invert.
Use your sparkle tube to add a variety of different sized sparkles to each image and base.
The selection invert will keep the sparkles from bleeding into your background and causing black smears on your final image.

Now you need to merge all your layers, USE layers Merge Visible

Save each of the images in psp format to one folder, I usually call my images witch1, witch2, witch3, etc.

globe tutorial 26

Now we will launch Animation Shop.
Go to File and move down until you see JASC Software Products.

Select Animation shop.

Wait for animation shop to open.

globe tutorial 28 Using the wizard in animation shop the following pop up screens will appear.

globe tutorial 27

Since all our images are the same size, we can just leave this screen as is.

globe tutorial 29

Since we want a transparent gif be sure to choose transparent.

You can click on the color square to change it to the background color or your page.

The two screens below are ones that I leave pretty much alone. I want my animations to run continuously and I set the timing to somewhere around 50. You can adjust the timing later in animation shop.

Now you need to find the files that you saved in psp. Browse to your computer files and find the file folder that you saved the images to. Select the last image and then hold the shift key and move up to the first image. Somehow this makes them load in the correct order. See images below.

Animation shop will open a string of images, each separate image in its own frame area.

globe tutorial 36You can view the animation by clicking the view animation icon, this is located in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

If you need to adjust the timing of the animation, right click on a frame and chose properties.

You can also delete frames or add frames while in animation shop.

select the quality of image you want.

You can use the back key later in the process to change this setting.

Click Next.

globe tutorial 39

The software will compress the image and the screen to the left will appear.

The little blue squares will move as the system works on the image.

When all the lines are filled with blue squares, click next.

globe tutorial 40

This preview screen will open and you can view the optimized image.

At this point you can use the back key to step back and and change the quality of the compression.

If you are happy with the quality then click next.

globe tutorial 41 This screen explains the byte size of your image, and the time required for the image to load at various modem speeds.

Click on Finish and your image is saved

Since most animated globes are rather large in byte size, I always make a thumbnail image to display on my website.

This is very easy to do in animation shop.

If the animation preview window is still open, close it.

globe tutorial 42 globe tutorial 43

Click on Animation on the top menu, and move down to resize.
A popup window like the one to the right will open.
You can set the number of pixels you want for your thumbnail
or you can select a percentage of size.

You can even set it to print on a specific size paper.

Here I used 50% and made sure that I retained the aspect ratio of the image.

You can use undo if the thumbnail comes out too small or large. And then redo until you are happy with the size.

globe tutorial 44

When you are happy with the thumbnail,

do a file save as and be sure to rename your image.

I add a t to the end of the name of my image and that way I always can remember which images have thumbnails.
