Leading Tutorial Page 2
Welcome to the tedious and important section.

By completing this section you will ensure that you leading is

When we left off our image looked like the one to the right.
It appears to be ready to lead.
We will now check out how ready it really is.

First we need to select the leading area.

Using the magic wand and the selections to the left,

click on an area within the lines.

(See the area were red arrow is).

You will see the marching ants around the leading areas.

Now we need to expand the area of these lines.

Normally a setting of one or two will be okay.
Selection/Modify/Expand/ setting = 2

Now feather the selection and use the same setting number.

Selection/Modify/feather/ setting = 2

Now we will flood fill the leading area to check out if it is okay.
Chose a very bright foreground color!

I chose a very bright Pink!!!

Use the setting from the image to the right.
Your image should look like the one on the left.

How did we do?

ZOOM IN AND REALLY LOOK AT THE IMAGE.

BE SURE THAT YOU HAVE ALL THE LINES INCLUDED.

Look at each section of the picture very closely.

If you are in doubt then try and apply the leading with blade pro.

I think you will find that we have a few problem areas.

From the zoomed and cropped image at the right you will see that we are missing some of the leaf section.
Scroll back up and look at my image above.

You will see the area where this came from which is to the left of the bells and up a little bit.

UNDO the flood fill off the bright color.

Now do a Selections/None

ZOOM IN on the area involved and look at the problem.
The are lines that are keeping the area from being selected.

Change your foreground color to white.
Use your paint brush to paint out the line.
Your image area should look like the one on the right.

There are a few more areas in the leaf section that have the same problem. Repeat the above step to find them all.

Problem number two in this picture is the areas within the bells which I don't want.
(the rectangular areas- within my green rectangles).
Start by undoing the flood fill.
Make sure your background color is set to white.
Use the selection tool to select the area and cut it out.
You can also set your foreground to white and flood fill the area.
For the bell on the left which had the pink color in it will will cut the area and then paint in a black line.
I also cleaned out the little dots in the ribbons.
When you have completely cleaned the image, flood fill the leading area again.
Your image should look like the one to the right.

You are now ready to flood fill the area with various colors and apply your blade pro presets to the area.

My step saving techniques: Save Frequently, at points when you are satisfied with the steps so far. Make a copy of the image at various stages, hit shift and D, When I get the image completed and ready to lead I save it as a psp. I make several copies (using shift and D) and apply different blade pro presets I save the image with the leading done (ie:bellspewter.psp, bellsgold.psp) leading zip - this includes the leading, pewter, gold, gold furnace, crackle&glitter, xmasdistress, opal, stained glass, and a few pnstains (flatter versions of the stained glass preset). You may have some and not others, so feel free to download them.

Below are thumbnails of a few leaded versions I did on the above images. You can click on the thumbnail to see the larger version and the detail of the leading.
