I just got Paint Shop Pro and Now what do I do?

PAGE FIVE

Preset Shapes - I love this tool!....

The check boxes on this tool are very important.

Retain shape - will give you the object just as it appears.
Notice that my drawing has no color in center and just a 2 pixel circle.

Antialias -The blending of the pixel colors along the edges to eliminate the stair-stepping look (called "jaggies") of curved and slanted lines. This feature is commonly used with text.

Create as Vector - used us adjust the shape
(I will illustrate this later in this lesson for now uncheck it)

Line size - adjust the width of the line

Line style - there are many different styles, but commonly you will use the default.

Uncheck the retain shape check box and draw a circle.

Your foreground color becomes the outer color edge color of the shape.

This image has a texture setting of the background (blue)

I also increased the size of the line to 7 pixels.

Note you can see the checked transparency squares below.

special shapes are fun - I use this one to make table tops all the time.

This image illustrations that sometimes you colors don't work as well as expected.

This shape creates on nice button with a drop shadow. Great for web buttons

Button with just foreground color selected.

Button with foreground selected to dark red and background to red.

Button with gradient fills of the same two colors.

Not quite what I wanted.

This is better, now how did I do that... stay tuned....
And no I didn't use the red button (there is one in the shapes)

This proves that I didn't cheat.

There is no button shape this color.

Any shape, or any image for that matter, can be colorized.

Only the layer you are working on will be colorized.

Settings I used to create the royal blue button.

Changing the hue will change the color.

Changing the saturation will change the shade of the selected color.

Two different shapes on separate layers.

Colorized one layer.

Colorization of the other layer.

By checking the vectors box, you can change the shape of the button.

Colorized version of the vectored shape.

Now you can't just do this without following a few steps.

New vectored shape, just for fun and variety.

Note if you go to colorize after creating vectored shape the colorize option is not available.

You cannot use many of the functions in PSP if you have a vectored layer.

You must convert any and all vectored layers to raster for these functions to work.

Go to layers and move down and select convert to raster.

Now the option is available.

Here is our colorized vector image.
