Creating Stained Glass Windows in Paint Shop Pro 7 - Page 4

Image with mosaic glass applied

Your image should now look similar to the one to the left.

We will now add some finishing touches and our scene.

point to point outer edge First we need to add an outer edge.

Add a new layer for your outer edge lines.

I used the point to point line tool to draw lines around the outer edge.
Click on the draw tool.drawtool icon image
Set the line width to about 8 pixels.
Click in one corner, move to the next. Right click and quit node editing. Repeat on all four edges.

Now use the magic wand to select the lines and apply bladepro preset to them.

To connect the ring and the outer edge we will use bezier curves.
Add a new layer for the bezier curves.

bezier step one image bezier curve step 2 bezier curve step 3 The Bezier Curve is one of the draw tool options. Click on the draw tool.drawtool icon image and select bezier curve in the drop down menu selection. Set your line with to about 8 pixels. A bezier curve requires three steps, first draw a line from one of your corners to the gold ring, next pull up on the line, and then move your cursor and pull down on the line. The images to the left illustrate these three steps.

Repeat and add bezier curves to all the corners.

Select the lines using your magic wand and apply bladepro preset to them.

Now move the bezier curve layer below your rings and outer edge layers.

These will hide any globs that occur at the ends of the lines

background image layer Now open your selected background image.

Is it larger than you image?

If not then you need to resize it.

I you don't resize it there will be areas behind your window with no image.

The background to the left was too small, so I resized it to about 125% of the original.

Be sure to check both the heighth and width of your image.

It must be taller and wider than you window image.

Don't worry if it gets blurry.

You will only see the scenic outlines and not the detail of the background image.

Image with added background

Now place your cursor on the background image.

Go to your menu and select Edit, Copy.

Move to your window image.

Select Edit, Paste, AS A NEW LAYER.

Move this layer below your other layers.

centering background image
Now we need to adjust the position of the background layer.

This can be tricky if you leave all the layers active.

So we turn off all the layers except the sphere and the background.

Now you can click on the background (avoid the area where the sphere actually is.

Move your background image around until you like what you see under the sphere.

Watch those outer edge areas, we don't want any blank areas of space around the background.

Now turn your layers back on and view your image.

Play with the opacity settings, in the layer pallette, for your glass layers.

You want to be able to see the background image, but

you also want to keep the glass color as bright as possible.

Adding your signature

Now add a layer for your signature.

I add my signature using a tube, this way it is always the same.

I can resize it to match the image I am working on.

By placing it on its own layer, I can colorize it or change the color brightness.

This way the signature compliments the image and finishs it off.
