MORTAL KOMBAT Review

Mortal Kombat is a mobile fighting game published by Warner Bros. It was initially released in 2015, and now you can download Mortal Kombat for free on Android and iOS.

Gameplay: Classics Made Fresh

The gameplay of Mortal Kombat on mobile does significantly differ from the original PC and console series. It is more similar to the mobile version of Injustice: Gods Among Us, which was also released by Warner Bros. Just like in Injustice, in Mortal Kombat you have to set a team of three fighters and take part in different battles. You can also challenge real players and unlock new heroes. The roster is currently up to date with the latest PC and console series and has more than 130 playable characters. You can also customize your fighters by choosing one of the available skins and level them up by taking part in battles.

Graphics: Decent for 2015

Despite the game being released in 2015, it still manages to look great on mobile. The graphics are detailed enough, the visual and sound effects are properly designed, and the backgrounds are pretty attractive. The interface is great as well, both during the fight and while in menus. It does not have that many visual effects on screen as Injustice does, but this is explained by a bit more realistic setting without superheroes and their abilities. The compatibility is also great with MK on mobile, as it manages to run on most devices properly.

Controls: Just Like Injustice

MK utilizes the same touch control system as Injustice does. You only have to use swipes and taps to perform combos and special attacks, which is a truly great approach to controls in fighting games on mobile. In case you have never played Injustice on mobile, the controls might seem pretty weird at first, but as soon as you get used to them, you will discover that it is the greatest way to play fighting games on touch screens.

Conclusion

Just like Injustice, Mortal Kombat on mobile is completely free to play. In case you are a fan of the original series, you will most probably enjoy seeing the same old characters on your Android or iOS device. However, it is important to properly manage the expectations: it is not the same as the original Mortal Kombat. The game is completely different both in terms of gameplay and in terms of its idea.
